The Amdec Group today announced the opening of the 5-star Johannesburg Marriott Hotel Melrose Arch, and Marriott Executive Apartments Melrose Arch. The openings mark the first purpose-built Marriott Hotel in South Africa, the debut of Marriott Executive Apartments in the country and the fifth collaboration between the Amdec Group and Marriott International.

Discussing the opening, Amdec Group CEO James Wilson stated, “We are exceedingly proud of the continuation of the Amdec Group’s long-standing relationship with Marriott International, and excited to see Johannesburg Marriott Hotel Melrose Arch and Marriott Executive Apartments Melrose Arch opening its doors. Melrose Arch is one of three Amdec Group developments to accommodate Marriott International-branded hotels. The Yacht Club in Cape Town is home to Africa’s first AC Hotel by Marriott, while Harbour Arch, currently under construction in Cape Town, will house a second 5-star Marriott Hotel, along with a Residence Inn.

“We believe Johannesburg Marriott Hotel Melrose Arch and Marriott Executive Apartments Melrose Arch will provide world-class hospitality destinations of choice for international executive guests, business travelers, and tourists visiting Johannesburg,” he said.

Sandra Schulze–Potgieter, Vice President Premium & Select Brands, Marriott International Middle East and Africa, said of the opening, “We are thrilled to open Johannesburg Marriott Hotel Melrose Arch and Marriott Executive Apartments Melrose Arch, further strengthening our relationship with the Amdec Group in South Africa. The openings are part of Marriott International’s commitment to expand our footprint in Africa and deepen our brand portfolio in South Africa. The property is a strong representation of two brands which will deliver tailored services, sophisticated spaces and enriching experiences.”

Marriott Hotels embarked on a worldwide transformation six years ago, featuring a new design with locally inspired accents and spaces that spark brilliance to seamlessly blend work and play. Johannesburg Marriott Hotel Melrose Arch is the first purpose-built Marriott Hotel in South Africa to showcase the brand’s distinctive new touchpoints. Comprising 306 guest rooms, the hotel’s interior design intersperses tailored utility with contemporary elegance, thus appealing to guests for whom style and functionality are of equal importance. Contemporary spaces throughout the hotel, such as the Greatroom located in the hotel lobby, are designed for socializing, relaxing and working. The M Club lounge reserved for Marriott Bonvoy Elite loyalty members and Club paying members is accessible 24 hours a day and offers complimentary breakfast, hors d’oeuvres, premium beverages, and the brand’s signature Mind Menu. The hotel also features two dining venues, seven meeting rooms, a ballroom, pre-function space, fitness center, outdoor heated swimming pool and pool bar.

On the upper floors, Marriott Executive Apartments features 84 fully sized and equipped apartments, ranging from one-, two- and three-bedroom units, for travelers seeking a trusted, longer stay.

Melrose Arch is privately owned, maintained and operated by the Amdec Group.  Centrally located and easily accessed via the Gautrain, public transport and e-hailing services, it boasts an excellent infrastructure and is considered to be the safest public access precinct in Johannesburg.  With over 120 retail stores, fashion boutiques, food and wine emporia, cafés, cocktail bars, and restaurants that offer alfresco dining all year round, guests will get to enjoy a truly memorable experience.

Johannesburg Marriott Hotel Melrose Arch and Marriott Executive Apartments Melrose Arch completes the One on Whiteley development within Melrose Arch. Comprising 241 private residential apartments spanning eight floors set above the street-level luxury motor dealership, Daytona, One on Whiteley is a premium residence for working professionals, corporate long-stay tenants and property investors.
